Nintendo Switch Surpasses Lifetimes Sales of the N64

Nintendo Switch Sales Now at 34.47 Million

The Nintendo Switch has only been on shelves for two years but, thanks to a new financial report from Nintendo, it’s already surpassed the Nintendo 64’s 32.93 million lifetime sales. Yowza!

According to the report, the Switch has sold 34.47 million consoles worldwide, confidently beating out the N64’s six-year life cycle by almost two million. As our friends at Destructoid point out, that puts the Switch in 15th place overall for best-selling consoles and portables. It’s still a far cry from the PS2 and Wii’s lifetime sales, but the Switch is still young with a bright future ahead of it.

Kudos to Nintendo on hitting an impressive milestone in a short amount of time. By comparison, the Wii U only sold 13.56 million units in its lifetime from 2012 to 2017. Talk about one awesome comeback.

Elsewhere in the financial report, Nintendo highlights strong software sales in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (13.81 million units), Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! (10.63 million units), and Super Mario Party (6.4 million units).

Looking ahead to the rest of 2019, Nintendo is hoping to maintain momentum with its Labo VR Kit (which released this month), Super Mario Maker 2 in June, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses in July. They also reiterate that Pokemon Sword and Shield, Animal Crossing (temp name), and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake are all slated to release this year.
